Open up the Conversation

  • Talk to your student about their college or career plans.
  • Keep an eye on your student’s study habits and grades—stay involved.
  • Encourage your student to take Advanced Placement or other challenging classes.
  • Learn about choosing a college and find a link to a free college search tool.
  • Help your student develop independence by encouraging him or her to take responsibility for balancing homework with any other activities or a part-time job.

Learn About Financial Aid

Get Active

  • Plan to attend college nights, financial aid nights, and scholarship nights at JHHS with your student - beginning the conversation early is a great idea.
  • Attend college fairs with your student, but don’t take over the conversation with the college representatives. Just listen, and let your student do the talking.
  • If time and money allow, take your student to visit college campuses, preferably when classes are in session.
